A California man has been sentenced to three years in prison for killing his wife’s pet cat, which was found dead in their Bay Area home in April 2014.
The cat, named “Catch,” was found in a bathtub at the couple’s home in Long Beach, according to court documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday.
Prosecutors allege that Michael Thomas Renn, 39, of San Jose, killed the cat with a hammer.
He was arrested after his wife found the body.
Prosecutors said Renn’s ex-wife, Samantha Thomas, claimed the cat died of a heart attack and he didn’t take responsibility.
Prosecutors also charged Renn with felony animal cruelty, felony burglary, felony animal neglect and misdemeanor animal cruelty.
